Your content doesn't need to be polished. It needs to be more HUMAN.
It's probably no surprise that I've been listening to a handful of podcasts lately. House of Maher, On Purpose, The Diary of a CEO, Good Content with Shannon McKinstrie - just to name a few. And one episode stopped me mid-listen and made me hit rewind.
The podcast? Good Content.
The episode? Human Connection Sells
And the message? Something I say all the time: The people growing the fastest online aren't the most polished. They're the most human.
Here's what Shannon said that I can't stop thinking about: "Anyone telling you not to share anything personal - that's like the worst advice. First of all, business is personal. And social media is called social media. It's not that deep."
She's right. And most business owners are doing the opposite - keeping it professional, going straight for the sell, playing it safe, keeping it distant. And wondering why nothing is landing.
Here's the truth: people don't buy from brands. They buy from people they recognize themselves in. People they like. And people they trust.
When someone scrolls past your content, the question they're asking is: do I relate to this?
So here are a few ways to show up more human starting this week:
šļø Speak from your lived experience. You don't need an expert title to share what you've learned. Your story is the hook.
š¬ Try an "I wish more [your audience] knew..." reel. Fill in the blank with something you say to clients all the time. That's content.
š¾ Post the kitten (or puppy) pic. Seriously. The behind-the-scenes, the real moments, the thing you almost didn't post because it felt too personal - that's exactly what people connect with.
The businesses winning on social media right now aren't waiting until everything is perfect. They're showing up as themselves and letting their people find them.
Your most relatable moment is already on your phone. You just have to be willing to post it.
Not sure where to start with your social media? Let's talk. I'd love to help. š§
